Honest is a great concept! This street food-oriented small restaurant chain has a nice and welcoming outlet in Waltham, and there are two more in Massachusetts.
In fact, there are several Honest restaurants across North America, even in Canada, to keep vegetarian food lovers warm. I’m sure they are all delightful, but I’ll only talk about the one in Waltham, Massachusetts, near Boston.
And honestly, again, this was a great experience! (And we ate all the parathas).
Friendly, casual, spicy, yummy
I came back to this entirely vegetarian Indian neighborhood eatery to assess whether I should be eating one paratha or two parathas at a time (it’s a longer story).
Eating just one paratha, rather than two, was guruji’s advice to my fellow students for healthy eating when I was studying yoga at the Indira Gandhi Cultural Center in Dhaka, Bangladesh. Guruji has a name: Dr. Prashanna Kumar. If you a reading, please know that I miss you and the class.
But anyway. I beg to differ. Parathas are too good to have just one. I’ll save the full story to another day, but my answer, of course, is two parathas.
And at Honest Waltham, a casual and warm-hearted little restaurant, you get all that and pav bhajis and more with a really nice service. I got to take pictures but shied away from sticking the lens in front of the staff (felt better this way).
Everything, of course, is vegetarian. There are a million options, I we knew not to order as much as the first time, as the portions are big. We got the thali platter along with (two big) aloo parathas to share. The thali has excellent dhal, curries, and rice, and pretty red swirls to decorate.
Proof below!
Before we ate it all:

And the parathas came with this yumminess:

Here are some of the pictures on the walls:

This all brings me back to South Asia. Thanks for a great meal at reasonable prices. Warmly recommended (and this is not a paid post, I just write about eating my veggies and aloo parathas).
Find this friendly, warm place at 475 Winter Street in Waltham, Massachusetts.
